Description
You can’t miss Casa Loma, even if you try. Perched atop a hill in the north end, Casa Loma draws thousands of visitors each year who look up and proclaim, “It’s a castle in the middle of the city!” Casa Loma was built by Canadian financier Sir Henry Pellatt to fulfill his childhood wish for a castle. His dream took three years and $3.5 million to complete.

It may appear anachronistic now, but...

Amazing part of toronto's heritage: Visited Thanksgiving Sunday, self-toured with the audio aid and enjoyed the fabulous brunch. My wife, step-daughter and niece all thoroughly enjoyed the day. This attraction is a feast for the imagination and we all felt deserved more than a one day visit. Far too much to see to get into individual comments. This is history in the raw so don't expect a sanitized and polished Disneyland-type experience. I have heard criticism of how Kiwanis care for this jewel, but after a first-hand visit, think they are doing well by the enormous challenge that this huge building poses to maintain. It is a marvellous feature for Torontonians and visitors, young and old. There are accessibility challenges but these come with the territory and would be extremely costly to overcome without destroying the character of the place.

Spend Your Time In The Garden: Have been to Casa Loma twice, showing visitors. Seeing a castle in Toronto seems very attractive to most people, but think twice.

The castle itself is in bad repair, and has been kept up barely. Not particularly clean, most exits are under a thick layer of dust, you can see very obvious cracks, debris, dirt and sings of poor upkeep on the walls, hallways, etc.. The decor is very drab, showing very obvious wear and tear.. The bathrooms were disgusting with a dirty plunger sitting in a beat up shelf in front of the sink for everyone to marvel at. The restaurant in the basement looks very dodgy, and if you think about sitting down, better bring windex from home.

Do not even think of going up the ladders to the top. There isn't a single thing there, not even an open window to draw clean air from. Just trash and people's names carved in the walls. And yes, a single stairway goes up and down, so you will have to wait some time to be able to get out.

The facade is decent, so pictures of the castle from the garden come out quite pleasant. The garden itself is quite lovely with a nice fountain (water bottles floating in it however) and pretty flowers. That's the best part of the place. Sitting out on the terrace is lovely.

Basically this place is a money cow for someone, charging $18 to get in, and spending nothing whatsoever on upkeep and cleanliness. You have to decide for yourself if a few nice pics of the castle from the outside, strolling for through the garden and sitting on the terrace is worth the admission price - because seeing the depressing, unkempt and dirty inside is definitely not worth a penny

Really Beautiful Castle: I visited Casa Loma and it was pretty neat. It was absolutely gorgeous! The area it is in is gorgeous as well. I had a good time viewing it, however the price was pretty high for my liking. I thought it was over priced for walking around a castle. Other than that, it was simply majestic. If you go, check out the tunnels underground...they're super creepy!

A kitschy glitch in the city's skyline to locals, this castle on a hill offers an inspiring view of the sweep of the city. But while you can admire the view for free, it's worth visiting the interior of the castle, too. The elegant rooms and period furniture are appropriately grand. If you're up for it, climb the towers (one Norman, one Scottish, both great).

Sir Henry Pellatt, who built it...
