Terrible Food and Service: Ebisu on Robson is a trendy spot in a well visited and popular part of downtown Vancouver. With so many Japanese restaurants in the area with high regard, I thought I would visit Ebisu with some friends for a fabulous time. Unfortunately it was dismal at best, and overall such a horrid experience I could never recommend this restaurant to anyone. Upon being seated, Ebisu showcases a casual, yet upscale design and layout. The menu items are priced similar to many other Japanese restaurants in the area for similar options as everyone else. So Ebisu would need a high calibre of food and service to compete with the other locales that have garnered so much praise. Unfortunately, Ebisu is not even worthy of opening up a chain in a shopping mall food court. The service was slow and unattentive. The drinks too far too long to arrive, despite the restaurant only being half full. The food was lackluster at best, most of which were left unconsumed by those in my party. Having a strong background in Japanese cuisine, I discussed how poor the food was with the manager, as well as their unorganized service. The manager was very defensive and did not accept any wrongdoings. Overall this was a very poor choice to dine at Ebisu. My party paid our bill, left absolutely nothing for a tip and headed down to another Japanese restaurant where we were treated respectfully and dined on fabulous real Japanese cuisine. Avoid Ebisu all together as you are wasting your time, money and expectations. The only guarantee you will have upon visiting Ebisu is great disappointment.

The drinks and shooters menu definitely caters to the latter, tilted toward cloyingly sweet concoctions with kitschy monikers like Golf Cart and Red Dragon. Standbys such as New York teriyaki steak ($17.95) and the...
