In store 'rent-a-cops' are offend honest patron.: I couldn't believe it when I went to the Nordel Crossing Liquor Store the week before Christmas. I was browsing the shelves, checking prices, comparing products and planning to spend about $100 on Christmas spirits, but I soon got a strange feeling that I was being watched.

I browsed the Scotch aisle -- there was the blue-jacketed rent-a-cop standing a few feet away pretending not to look at me.

I left the Scotch aisle and went to the Rum aisle. Less than a minute elapsed before the same blue-jacketed rent-a-cop was in the same aisle as me.

I left the Scotch aisle and went to the Rye aisle. No more than 30 seconds this time before I had company: the same blue-suited rent-a-cop.

In a louder than normal voice I confronted him: "I am not a thief."

His response? Denial. "I am not looking at you, I am looking at this bottle right here."

"The hell you are. I'm telling you again. I am not a thief. You've been following me all over this store since I came in."

Note to the LDB: You should invest in more SERVICE and less SECURITY. If it was my store, I'd have two employees devoted to this. The first employee would greet customers in the store and engage them in friendly conversation as to their needs. Once their needs had been ascertained, the second employee would show the customer to the product he/she is seeking and make suggestions for additional purchases.

What do you accomplish? First of all, by engaging the customers in real conversation in the store, you acknowledge and recognize them. A prospective thief would be less likely to steal at that point, and would probably leave the store. 2) The customers would be better served, happier, and more likely to buy more.

Lose those "security" drones and replace them with employees who's 'service' to customers actually prevents losses due to theft. It's basic.
