Lawyers perspective-re:proper perspective.: Interesting thought Drew. In the province of Ontario, contractors can place a lien on a home for $60 and are not required to provide evidence of lien validity. In essence, they can hold a home owner ransom, impairing their ability to sell or refinance their home. Would you be willing to risk your electrical work to an electrician who has a documented history of this activity? My advice, always use ESA authorized contractors, you can find these legitimate electricians on the ESA website. They have something to lose.

proper perspective: Christien, I can appreciate how your friend feels, but wonder and must ask. Have you heard both sides ot this situation?

Ron Malachowski from Nortec cannot be trusted.: Contract said $7000-$10000 to replace K&T wiring and bring entire house to code. This cost is within what was to be expected based on several discussions with electricians.
Our contractor said he was a complainer on the job, smoked in the house and when we were on vacation he refused to let anyone in the house while he was working. My contractor was delayed by at least 2 weeks because of this.
Two days before we were to move in, Ron cuts the power off and refuses to answer his phone. The hydro company would not turn it back on, only if the permit holder calls. We had to hire another electrician to pull a permit to finish the job so we could get our flooring laid and move in! . Ron left an invoice in our house for $27,000! Within 1 week of receiving the invoice we got a letter from his lawyer, he had placed construction lien on our house! We believe that we will win if it goes to court but until then we have a lien on our property and have to pay lawyers fees. On top of it all, he left a ton of trash (and cigarette butts) in the house and we had to change all the locks because he did not return his keys
Ron from Nortec is a thief and will rob you blind. His work is sub-par and he cuts corners everywhere. ESA is only interested in fire hazards but do not care about all the c@!%!y finishes that are done. The homeowner on the other hand is interested in safety and appearances. Ron knows the exact minimum required to keep his license and get hired by unsuspecting victims.
Do not hire this person unless you want to get ripped off and have a lien placed on your property before you even have a chance to pay.

Nortec Electric Tries to Rip Customers Off: Be very weary if you choose to do business with this company. A friend used this company and signed a contract to have some major electrical work done. The company never completed the job. A final invoice was sent to my friends which demanded almost 3 times the original agreed price and also put a lean on their property for failure to pay. They are now dealing with a lawyer.
Please take careful consideration before choosing this electrical company. I would hate to see anyone else taken advantage of.
