first and last time in: I asked them to do a specialty item for me today, the young guy behind the counter called out another guy. I asked for a 30 lbs porcetta (deboned pig). He said it would be $500 dollars(he just blurted out a price)... if you dont want to do it just tell me that, dont over quote to scare me off. Im in the restaurant business and i know the price of meats. I figured i would use a local business for this, but apparently he has enough business and doesnt need any new costumers.

Good luck running your business with that attitude.

Now disappointed - edited review: Original review - The staff is friendly, the food is of excellent quality and it isn't as pricey as it once was. I only wish their location was more convenient.

*Editing to add* We've stopped going to Pilgrim's. The last time I went the man behind the counter was wearing gloves that looked a bit dubious. He didn't put on clean ones to serve me, grabbed raw (dripping) pork with them and then deli meat. Handling ready to eat meat with a glove does nothing if the glove is contaminated with raw meat juices. I was shocked. And when I called him on it, he didn't care. He was probably wearing the same pair of gloves for several customers in a row.

Bad Service!: It would be nice to have a good meat store which has drug-free meats, but where is the proof of it? Pilgrim's does not give any information on where the animals come from, nor on how they are treated. It would be nice to know if the meat comes from animals that are humanely raised. It would also be nice to come into the store and be greeted with courtesy and professionalism. Unfortunately the 2 times I have purchased there, the worker seemed to hate their job. They were not friendly, they were cold and asking them questions was like a burden to them. Avoid this store and find another place that you can have a good experience in. Wish there was a Whole Foods Market in Niagara.
