Thanks for the heartburn!: We arrived on what should have been a busy night for the Rose Thai Restaurant in West Vancouver, but the place was almost empty. This was a Sign from above to go somewhere else, but no, we had to walk in…..

The hostess , who I'm guessing is also the owner seemed to be in a horrible mood, managed to take time out of her busy schedule to find us a table.
Once seated, we asked for water and she asked us if we want tea as well. Thinking it was complimentary, because of the way she asked us; we said yes, but at the end of the night she charged us $10.50 for this pot of tea.

The Rose Thai menu we were handed was the size to a hard covered novel and featured page after page of blurry food photos accompanied by an extremely pricey and complicated section of food.

We ordered soup to start for $13.95. The owner said that the soup would not be enough for four of us, but if we ordered another portion for $6.00, she would make it a really big bowl. We said yes…..

When the soup arrived, the waiter said for us to make room on the table as this was really Big-Soup and it will take up a Really Big Space! Once he lifted up the lid, we could see that the "Really Big" was actually referring to the bowl that the soup was in and in fact, not the soup itself.

He then served the soup our ($19.95) soup and all we ended up getting each was one medium size shrimp (Not pealed), a teaspoon of "Safeway Style" vegetables in a cup of chilly infused tap water!

When we ordered the main dishes including chicken in a coconut curry sauce.
The waiter asked us if we wanted rice with that. We said yes, thinking that the rice was added to the main dish or maybe on the side of the main dish.

The waiter then brought out 4 small side bowls of rice around 3/4 of a cup each and introduced it to our table as "Here's your Uncle Ben's Rice"
This was really not that funny as we actually went to the restaurant for an authentic experience.
When the bill arrived at the end of the night, they actually charged us $5.00 for each bowl of rice, a price that would make Uncle Ben cry….

Since there was no one else in the Rose Thai Restaurant in North Vancouver, our main dishes arrived really fast, So fast that maybe the food fell out of the bowls on the way to the table, because these portions were extremely small.
For example, our chicken dish in coconut curry had about 1/2 cup of vegetables, 1/2 cup of shredded chicken with 1 can of coconut milk for 14.95.

Five minutes later, we had all finished the dishes (No surprise given their size) and rice and asked for the 2 separate bills.

We then presented the owner with two Rose Thai Restaurant coupons from The Vancouver Entertainment Book.

The owned informed us that we could only use one coupon (9.00 value) per table. We questioned her because no where on the coupon did it say anything about one coupon per table and the rules with using the Vancouver Entertainment Book are only one coupon per bill. The owner went on to say that she agreed with us but said that she changed her policy on the entertainment book coupons after the book was printed and therefore, she would not honour the coupon agreement she previously agreed to honour with the Vancouver Entertainment Book company..

The Rose Thai Restaurant in West Vancouver is a complete rip-off, with extremely small portions being served.

This restaurant cares more about how they look than how they cook.

They charged for rice and tea that other Thai restaurants in Vancouver would include with the meal.

Very misleading, Very deceptive, but nice flower arrangements….

The Rose Thai Restaurant will probably end up in the restaurant obituary section of your local newspaper very soon.

Thanks for the heartburn!
