New owner just doesn't get it - wont be returning.: Despite ordering $112 of high tea (4 x $28) before tax and tip, when we asked for a couple of extra cotted cream and extra jam, our waitress returned to say they were going to be $2 extra each item!

Having been a very happy customer a couple of times per year for at least 5 years, and NEVER been asked to pay for extra before, we asked that she check again with management.

She returned to apologetically confirm the policy. Needless to say we were all shocked...

For $28 you get a simple egg salad sandwich, cucumber and cream cheese sandwich, a small half asparagus roll, a salmon salad on one cracker, 2 (very good) homemade scones with a very limited dollup of jam and clotted cream, various pieces of sliced fresh fruit, and 3 basic commercial bakery desert squares (that look and taste like they were purchased at Costco).

To be asked to pay for something that is barely one step above condiments was bad enough, but when paying over $100 for a couple of sandwiches and scones for 4 people, its downright insulting!

In fact, we have enjoyed high tea at over 100 separate establishments world wide, and we have NEVER been asked to pay for more jam or clotted cream!

When paying, we expressed our disappointment to a woman identifying herself as the owner (she was working the cash registrar), and instead of apologizing, chose to defend herself by claiming it has been the policy for 11 years (to which we know was never enforced by the previous owner).

In short, the current owner seems to be more interested in the quick buck, and loyal or returning customers be damned.

A quick look at look at the math - all for $8, this new owner has directly lost $200+ per year in our patronage, not to mention the number people we will no longer be recommending to eat there.

Like I said before - the new owner just doesn't get it.New owner as of August 2010 just doesn't get it - wont be returning.

Despite ordering $112 of high tea (4 x $28) before tax and tip, when we asked for a couple of extra cotted cream and extra jam, our waitress returned to say they were going to be $2 extra each item!

Having been a very happy customer a couple of times per year for at least 5 years, and NEVER been asked to pay for extra before, we asked that she check again with management.

She returned to apologetically confirm the policy.
