Keep up the good work: I am an avid cyclist in Toronto and Broadway Cycle has been my "go to" bike shop for almost the past seven years. Being in the Brock and Bloor st. area, they have lots of competition with Sweet Petes, Bike Pirates, and various stores at Dufferin mall. Yet, even with this competition they continue to expand and become one of Ontario's largest Specialized retailers. They are currently in the process of setting up a Body Geometry Fit studio (complete with the latest Body Geometry Fit Data capture technology).
"This all sounds pretty cool, but what about their staff?", you say. Their staff, on top of often being very friendly are also very knowledgable. I can always rely on getting good bike related advice, usually deriving from their own past experiences. In the basement you will find the full mechanic shop where old bikes are revived and brought back to life, in my experience their mechanics are very skilled in what they do.
To top everything off, every bike they sell comes with 5 years of free tune ups to keep your ride running true and a smile on your face.

Keep up the good work

Know what they're doing: I want to comment on the service department. Nobody likes to lose their bike for a week. I am one of those people. I hate missing a ride, and missing a week-end is awful. Broadway gets my bike done quickly so I can get back to riding.
The mechanics there know what they're doing. I have been dealing with Broadway Cycle for around 8 years. I am a female mountain biker, and I really appreciate the service that I get. My bike gets a lot of wear and tear, so I'm in there often replacing parts and getting adjustments. When I explain to them that there is something wrong with my bike, they always take my input very seriously and fix the problem. The best thing about their service is that they will go over my bike in front of me and show me what's causing the problem. I feel that they only sell me parts when it is absolutely necessary. They've seen me through cracked frames and bent wheels. I'll keep going back.

reasons that Broadway is a better bike store: Broadway is often overlooked when compared to Sweet Pete's down the street. At Sweet Pete's you get the feeling that everyone leaves the store gets on their fixie and rides home to Kensington for Vegan Tofu burgers and joints. Broadway feels almost corporate in comparison (I don't think the patrons voted for Rob Ford or anything, but they probably own a car). Despite lacking the hipster vibe, there are three reasons that Broadway is a better bike store when it comes to things that matter:

1) Service - You get 5 years of service when you buy a new bike. That is huge savings over the long term. In addition, the service department doesn't seem as busy as Sweet Pete's. Sweet Pete's took over a week to tune-up my bike. Broadway took 2 days.

2) Selection - I think Specialized bikes are hands down my favourite bikes. Broadway has them. Sweet Pete's does not.

3) Staff - This is a tough one. I think the staff at Sweet Pete's are for the most part super friendly and knowledgeable, but the staff at Broadway are better when it comes to making sure I get what I need, asking if I have any questions and answering them.

I will be going back :): Yes I am now a fan of Broadway Cycle! After being ignored by sales staff at the helmet display and denied a quick tune up a Sweet Petes (they make you wait 2 weeks!) I decided to leave swiftly and move on to the next shop. Broadway Cycle happens to be just a little west and just a little sweeter. The mechanics guaranteed my bike would be ready within 24 hours and they passed me off to the sales staff so that I could try on Helmets. I'd give them a better rating if their helmet display wasn't so hard to navigate... eventually they found the right helmet for me.. kinda pricey but they also guaranteed it was worth the money.

I will be going back :)

Broadway Cycle differs from many of the other stores I've been visiting in that it doesn't try to cater to only one type of cyclist. Instead of targeting urban utility cyclists or commuters or the high-end roadie crew, they prefer to act as a jack of all trades. Far from a bad thing, this is how most bike stores used to operate 10-15 years ago prior to the trend of specialization. Although this...
