Great Museum!: Has always been somewhere we Vancouverites take visitors but since its renovation and additions, it's become worth a second visit. Wonderful collection. Make sure you check it out if you haven't been for a while!!

The new and expanded museum gift shop features excellent and elegant works by contemporary First Nations artisans, as well as books about the culture and publications on identifying and caring for Pacific Northwest crafts.

This isn't just any old museum. In 1976, BC architect Arthur Erickson created a classic native post-and-beam-style structure out of poured concrete and glass to house one of the world's finest collections of Northwest Coast Native art. A major renovation and rebranding completed in 2010 more than doubled the gallery space and added new luster to this remarkable showplace.

You'll see a whole lot of totem poles while you're in Vancouver; they're the most striking evidence of the First Nations Indian population living in the area. The poles, usually 15 to 30 feet high and made from local red cedar, are intricately carved with faces and figures depicting important historical and tribal events.
