Uncaring Nurses & Staff: My mother had to have surgery & ran into complications (infection) as she lay there in her bed saturated in discharge; bed, nightgown & bandages completely saturated & she was being ignored even after she told them of the problems. Even after the nurses finally got around to changing the bandages, my mom would have to go through it all over again the next day. The nurses finally realized that an actual medical condition was happening & that it wasn't all in the patients head. INFECTION had set in & now my mom was in more pain & had to stay in hospital longer than was required. The longer that anyone is in one place, the more they tend to take notice of their surroundings. Things like nurses causing unnecessary pain for patients that had just come out of surgery & the nurse was repulsed because the lady had defecated so she used excessive force out of frustration & caused the lady to scream in agony! I've also witnessed the lack of knowledge from nurses not knowing how to operate new equipment e.g morphine pump, Kangaroo Feeding Tube. Toronto East General lacks a Welcoming/Inviting, Caring, Recovery environment & Communication between staff is non-existant. The interior of the hospital itself is cold, dilapidated & generally give's me & other visitors a sense of feeling unwell, so I can imagine what it's like to have to reside there for a period of time. At this point it's redundant to bring up the mold on the bathroom ceilings. We should have stuck with what we know to be true & offers consistent top notch care & that's Mount Sinai Hospital! But we live & learn & thank God she's recovering from the infection which could have been avoided if they just took the time to listen & care as their motto states!
